ICU Advisory 1/7/2012 - Last night I received a phone call that clearly came from a boiler room, you know, a room filled with 100 phones and people that barely have a grasp of the language making rapid fire random calls hoping to strike oil.

Last night's call was from a gentleman who could barely speak English that wanted to improve my Web Site's position in the Search engines (specifically Google).

Thanks to Caller ID, I recognized the number as one I would not want to answer, but one thing made me curious, he left a message.

After listening to the message several times, I was able to obtain the general idea and get the call back number (different from the one displayed by my caller ID).

In very poor English the gentleman explained that they were an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) company that could get my Web Site great placement with the Search Engines. Two things occurred to me. 1) He must have found me by using the Search Engines so I must have pretty good positioning already and 2) He clearly didn't check my Site very well or he would have seen that at ICU we also do SEO.

I get 100 eMails a day from folks promising better Search Engine placement and I'll bet many of you do to. Most of these folks are scammers who at the least can't deliver what they promise or worse case may be identity thieves.
